Two petitions call for the first Catholic Elementary school in Findlay Creek, as well as a significant student expansion to l’École secondaire catholique Paul-Desmarais in Stittsville.

[CARLETON] — Today, MPP Ghamari, Thomas D’Amico (OCSB Director of Education), and Marc Bertrand (CECCE directeur de l’éducation) announced virtually the release of 2 petitions in support of building new schools and expanding student capacity in the community. They were joined by Councillors Meehan and Gower, several officials from both school boards, as well as parents and members of the public.
- The first petition asks the Government of Ontario to approve funding to build the first Catholic Elementary School in Findlay Creek.
- The second petition asks the Government of Ontario to approve funding for a critical student expansion at École secondaire catholique Paul-Desmarais in Stittsville.
“I am a strong believer in public education,” said MPP Ghamari, “One of the reasons I ran for office is because I wanted to see more schools built in Carleton’s rapidly growing communities like Stittsville, Findlay Creek, and Riverside South. Since getting elected three years ago, I’ve already successfully secured funding to build 4 new schools, the most of any MPP in the province. I’ve also had several meetings with OCSB and CECCE, discussing the need for new schools and expanded student capacity in the riding.”
“The Ottawa Catholic School Board Trustees have been advocating for a Catholic elementary school in Findlay Creek for many years. The time is now for our number one capital priority to receive funding so that we can keep Catholic students in their community. It will take at least two more years to have a school built in Findlay Creek so we’re hopeful that the next round of capital announcements prioritizes this growing community.” said Thomas D’Amico, Director of Education for the Ottawa Catholic School Board.
“The expansion of École secondaire catholique Paul-Desmarais is a priority project for the CECCE, as it significantly exceeds its capacity at the moment. This school stands out for its very interesting programs, notably its C.I.E.L. (Creativity, Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Leadership) concentration, which opens doors for students to a world in constant evolution. The Sport-études, Arts, Technologies and Business streams allow our students to develop and adapt like never before to the challenges that await them. The school is also equipped with a state-of-the-art sports dome that allows students to play sports whatever the season.” said Marc Bertrand, director of the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE).
Johanne Lacombe, President of the CECCE, continues, “I would like to sincerely thank MPP Goldie Ghamari for her dedication and support in this endeavour and I hope that this expansion project can begin soon.”
“By coming together, I believe that we can send a strong message to Queen’s Park that these two capital priority projects are needed,” said MPP Ghamari. “That’s why these two petitions are so critical. The most signatures we have, the stronger the message. That’s why I am asking for everyone’s support in the community to help me be a strong voice for the communities of Stittsville and Findlay Creek. I encourage everyone to sign and share these petitions with friends, family, and neighbours in Findlay Creek and Stittsville. Hopefully, together, we can push these two projects over the finish line.”

La députée Ghamari, le Ottawa Catholic School Board et le Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est émettent des pétitions en faveur de deux écoles.
Deux pétitions demandent la création de la première école élémentaire catholique à Findlay Creek, ainsi que l’agrandissement de l’École secondaire catholique Paul-Desmarais à Stittsville.

[CARLETON] — Aujourd’hui, la députée Ghamari, monsieur Thomas D’Amico, directeur de l’éducation du Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) et monsieur Marc Bertrand, directeur de l’éducation du Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE), ont annoncé virtuellement la publication de deux (2) pétitions, l’une en faveur de la construction d’une nouvelle école et l’autre pour augmenter la capacité d’accueil de l’École secondaire catholique Paul-Desmarais. Ils étaient accompagnés des conseillers Meehan et Gower, de plusieurs représentants des deux conseils scolaires, ainsi que des parents et des membres du public.
- La première pétition demande au gouvernement de l’Ontario d’approuver le financement de la construction de la première école élémentaire catholique anglophone à Findlay Creek.
- La deuxième pétition demande au gouvernement de l’Ontario d’approuver le financement pour l’agrandissement de l’École secondaire catholique Paul-Desmarais à Stittsville, qui permettra d’augmenter la capacité d’accueil de l’école, qui est actuellement dans une situation critique.
« Je crois fermement à l’éducation publique », a déclaré la députée Ghamari. « L’une des raisons pour lesquelles j’ai posé ma candidature aux élections provinciales, c’était pour voir la construction d’un plus grand nombre d’écoles dans les communautés de Carleton en pleine croissance comme Stittsville, Findlay Creek et Riverside Sud. Il y a maintenant 3 ans que je suis élue et j’ai déjà réussi à obtenir des fonds pour la construction de quatre (4) nouvelles écoles. J’ai également eu plusieurs réunions avec l’OCSB et le CECCE, pour discuter de la nécessité de construire de nouvelles écoles et d’augmenter la capacité d’accueil des élèves dans la circonscription. »
Le directeur de l’éducation du Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE), Marc Bertrand, indique que : « L’agrandissement de l’École secondaire catholique Paul-Desmarais est un projet d’immobilisation prioritaire pour le CECCE, alors qu’elle dépasse de façon significative sa capacité d’accueil. D’ailleurs, cette école se démarque par son offre de programmes des plus intéressants, notamment sa concentration C.I.E.L (Créativité, Innovation, Entrepreneuriat et Leadership) qui ouvre les portes aux élèves vers un monde en constante évolution. Les volets Sport-études, Arts, Technologies et Affaires permettent à nos élèves de se développer et de s’adapter comme jamais aux défis qui les attendent. L’école est également munie d’un dôme sportif, une installation à la fine pointe de la technologie qui permet aux élèves de pratiquer des sports à longueur d’année. »
La présidente du CECCE, Johanne Lacombe, poursuit ainsi : « Je remercie sincèrement la députée Goldie Ghamari pour son dévouement et son appui dans cette démarche et j’espère que ce projet d’agrandissement pourra débuter sous peu ».
